How to get a METRO Card in Bangalore ?
First, some History about Metro and what is Metro
METRO – the company which started in Germany way back in 1964 as a single wholesale outlet is now world number one in Cash and Carry and is available in 30 countries. In India, METRO started operations in 2003 and is going from strength to strength and they have plans to extend it further.
METRO Cash and Carry India presently has Stores in four major cities of India – Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkatta and Mumbai.
They have B2B (Business to Business) concept and serves Business customers. It is a one stop shop for all your business needs. Here you have to buy in bulk (wholesale) and you get quality items at best prices. MRP doesn’t matter. You can pick the items yourselves, pay and transport on your own or use any of the transportation services available at METRO on payment. If you are not satisfied with the product you can exchange or get your money back within 7 days of purchase.

Procedure to get a Metro Card in Bangalore
METRO Card is issued free of cost if you own a Business.
All you have to do is visit their website http://www.metro.co.in/ and download the application form, fill it and submit the same along with your Business License and they will immediately issue a temporary METRO Card.
Then their Customer consultant will visit you and handover the permanent METRO Photo ID Card.
Following is the List of Licenses accepted at Metro:
- Value Added Tax Registration (VAT)
- Central Sales Tax
- Excise license
- Service/ Professional tax
- Shops & Establishments registration (Labour License)
- Health/Trade (Corporation) License
- Liquor license
- Food license (PFA)
- Drug license
- Weight & Measures license
- Government fair Price shop
- Kerosene license
- Registrar of Cooperative societies
- Gas agency license
- Electricity board contractor license
- Small scale industries license
- Licenses issued by Reserve Bank of India
- License issued under essential commodities act (selling pesticides, agro seeds)
- Entertainment license
If you have any one of the above licenses then you can apply for a Metro Card. See the Metro Website for exceptions.
To become a Metro Customer just send a mail with your Name and Contact Number to register.me@metro.co.in and Metro will contact you.
Presently you get around 18000 Food and Non-Food items at METRO.
Two METRO Stores are available in Bangalore one at Yeswantpur and another at Kanakapura Road.
Two persons are allowed entry per METRO Photo ID Card – the owner of the card and one person to assist him in purchase. Kids are not allowed.
Minimum billing amount is Rs.1000.
All transactions are to be made in cash.
METRO is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday.

You cannot ask for a Metro Card like this. You have to apply at the Metro and should have a business to get a card.

You need to have a business to get a Metro Card. If you have a business then you may apply for it may be on your wife’s name as I am sure the business won’t be on your name anyway.

My family runs a private school in my native which is 200 KMs from Bangalore which is recognised by Government of Andhra Pradesh. Its being run on behalf of my Mother’s name. I work in Bangalore and it is literally not possible for my mom to come to Bangalore for stationary and other school needs. Can I operate on the card on her behalf?

I have got a business(wine shop license) under my name and when i visited the metro outlet they said to bring a coverletter on the letter head of the business, but how can a wine shop have a letter head, and what to write on the letter?

It is mandatory for the card holder to be present while making a purchase at Metro. Only the card holder is allowed inside Metro.

I have a consultancy business, i have letter head and bank account, under which i operate, since its a service oriented enterprises, we dont have a company license as such (we pay service tax in case our turnover crosses the 8lakh mark), how to go about in procuring a metro card, Can i write a letter to your company on my letter head and the same would be entertained by your company.

You can add your name in the Firm as partner or employee and get the add on card on your name. Just reconfirm the same from Metro on Yeshwantpur.

Sir,
Actually we purchased at metro and I was holding a small tube of cream in my hand and my mobile also. By mistake I put both to my purse and later was caught. I told the metro people that it was a mistake happened without my notice but they are not agreeing.They took the card and blocked it. Actually the card is in my brothers name.. Now could you please suggest me how to get back that card.Now my brother is out of bangalore. Can I come and get the card.. Please reply through mail
